New Venue - Same Mess

New Venue - Same Mess

Hello friends,

As I write this newsletter, it has been confirmed that Möther’s Creme Diaries will have another show on October 31st at Precinct, DTLA’s premier gay bar hunny!

This will also be the very last time to catch “Paranormal Ménage”, as I am retiring the storyline to make way for new tales.

On Halloween night we are the opening act from 7-8:30pm for Precinct’s “Monster Mash” starring Kornbread.

I'm extremely excited to give the show "Paranormal Ménage" another run, incorporating everything I've learned from the first production.

Fortunately, the venue agreed to cover the cost of my headliner, which is a positive step. In addition, the venue provides its own tech person and in-house photographer, which helps reduce costs compared to my previous show.

Now, I am responsible for paying the remaining cast members and any other unforeseen costs. I will sell tickets for the event, both through Eventbrite and at the door.

Let’s talk selling

I hate this part! You put your art in front of the masses and then you have to persuade them to buy it.

Everyday we’re inundated with ads to buy products or services so why do we feel so dirty when it’s our turn to “sell”?

We haven’t acquired that skill set yet.

When you’re unsure of how to do something, fear, doubt and uncertainty set it. And instead of powering through that uncomfortable feeling we play it safe by not going forward.

I quickly realized that if want to stand a chance in any business I need to self educate. That will give me the confidence, stamina and concentration to weather any storm.

A few months ago, I came across a YouTuber named Dan Koe. He often discusses the creator economy and emphasizes the significance of solving your own problems and then selling the solution. One problem that is quite universal, especially in Los Angeles, is making a sustainable income through your art.

Let’s start with discipline. If you don’t plan your day, your day will plans you.

I needed to keep myself accountable with some daily habits ( in no particular order).

  • read an educational book - I’m currently reading “Pre-Suasion” by Robert Cialdini

  • out of bed by 6:30am (I can be better at this one)

  • 30 min listening to an online course I purchased

  • 30 min cleaning (I can be better)

  • 20 min responding on IG and X

  • 2 hours a day of writing

  • go through calendar

  • make bed

  • gym

Start small and personalize.

Very cliche but you don't join a gym and start lifting the heaviest weights with no plan behind it.

You have to know what your ultimate goal is for working out. Do I want to lose weight, gain muscle, ect.

That concept also applies to life. What do you want? What are your aspirations? Personally, I am currently in the process of transforming my brand into a media company that offers a one-of-a-kind, out of this world drag experience. However, if I want to stand a chance, I need to think long-term, looking ahead at least 5-10 years.

It’s all about attention and it’s scattered throughout all forms of content.

Gone are the days when 50 million viewers would watch the finale of Friends all at once, and then discuss it the next day in the break room. Today, television shows are lucky to reach a million views.

That means it’s anybody's game. ANYBODY. If you’re complaining about too much competition, start competing for that attention. Life is a game.

Ask any small business owner. They eat, sleep and breathe their business or else go work for someone.

I’m gonna end with a tweet I posted on X.

Choose your time wisely.

Thanks for reading xx

P.S. Get your butt in costume and join us at Precinct to enjoy “Paranormal Ménage” one last time before we wrap it up for good.
